Hiking Last Year

By dusanabotswana On January 12th, 2012

The Monday after Christmas we enjoyed our day off and the beautiful weather by going for a hike, again to South Mountain (at least one resolution is looking good!). Jonny and I were on the way when we thought my mom might like to come, adding that I thought Gus (her dog) “would be smitten by a hike as well,” to which we all got a good laugh, and along he came! (Although he probably won’t be invited much more with the way he behaved around the other dogs.)

And since I loved taking pictures in the desert before (here & here), I decided to go in a non-athletic but an equally comfy outfit, mixing my embroidered blouse with these 25-cent shorts I picked up awhile ago and keep meaning to wear, as well as a really old flower pin I never use, simply attaching a hair clip to the back pin part (and wondering why I’d never thought of that before!).

Someone really wanted a picture pretending to hug a cactus and it wasn’t me!

The desert was absolutely stunning, so green from all of the rain we had that month.

And in case you’d missed seeing a close-up of my embroidered tops lately ; ). I just can’t get over how beautiful they are.

Maybe next time we’ll check out this mountain range a bit farther away.

Outfit details: shorts- thrifted (25 cents); tights- hand-me-downs from mom; hair flower- some mall shop 3+ years ago; blazer & booties- thrifted gifts; top- handmade in Chiapas, Mexico.

We used to always have a potluck Thanksgiving at an arboretum and go for a big hike after stuffing ourselves, and I think it’d make for a wonderful new tradition on or around Christmas don’t you?

And I might as well rub it in that we can go hiking in December and January right? ; ) (Especially since I’ll be miserable and dripping sweat come summer when most blogger prance around outdoors.)

final thx

Fun! You mean your family used to do a potluck & arboretum thanksgiving or you’d do it with friends? Hiking sounds fun to me right now.. don’t think I’ve done that for like 10 years! haha.

Wow, your top is amazing, and I like how you wore it here. The desert looks stunning :) what an awesome place!
Thanks for your comments :) to answer your questions, my poncho was handmade by my aunt (a professional seamstress) almost seven years ago (although it’s so easy to do that I could do it myself), and I really don’t know if they have lighter shades of henna (maybe you should take a look at your local herbalist’s shop), but surely exists the neutral henna, that doesn’t color your hair but it’s like beauty mask for hair.
