Fair Trade/Made Gift Guide by Victoria

By dusanabotswana On December 14th, 2012

Hello everyone, I’ve been meaning to contact Victoria for some time now about doing a guest post on fair trade items since she does such a wonderful job promoting them on her blog, so what better time than the holidays? Hope you procrastinated on holiday shopping like me, but if not, these are great companies to know about in general!

I’m Victoria from Justice Pirate, here to give you a fair/free-trade guide for Christmas. A lot of the products in our world are created with slave-labor (I know this is hard to fathom, but it is true). Although it is so difficult to find items made by people who are paid well and treated fairly, or companies trying to help protect those who came out of slavery. There are great companies who help others rebuild their lives while receiving great products as a result of their happiness. You also can help support private-run companies that do all the work themselves and get paid for it too! I hope you enjoy the list below! I tried to put in variety and a mixture of things that would interest the readers of this blog. I hope you enjoy!

1. Sseko Designs helps women in Uganda work their way to getting a higher education and help them out of poverty. They make the Sandals & purses/clutch bags and you can help fund their survival with every purchase towards their hard work.

2. Original is a skateboarding company that designs longboards for various purposes. The creators work hard on designing, skating, creating, and crafting everything they do. They have a team as well and connect with other longboarders. My husband and I have been in love with watching their videos and loving their products for about two years now and highly recommend them.

3. Love Brand is a clothing company for young kids. There aren’t many choices out yet, but all of their profits help victims of human trafficking, in which every minute 2 children are sold into various forms of slavery.

4. Divine Chocolate is seriously the most scruptious chocolate I’ve ever had. They have a whole bunch of new chocolates out for Christmas which I am sure would make such a great gift for friends and family! 45% of the profits go to the farmers of the fair-trade cocoa fields. Most farmers suffer brutally for people around the world to taste the sweet treat, but many run their own farms and can work in ease. They even have stories of some of the farmers on their website (really wonderful videos to watch too), which is wonderful. Their children are able to attend school because of those who buy their chocolate!

5. Sweet Little Blessings is run by a mom of 12 with 1 more due this month. Yep. She knows a lot about cloth diapers and changing them and runs this shop filled with various cloth diapers that can be reused. They are organic and made by various companies that hope to build up the comfort of your child and ease your cloth diapering experience.

6. Land of a Thousand Hills is a coffee company I just heard about, and I adore what they do. I am sure you have heard about the civil wars and genocides to nations like Rwanda. This company is working to bring peace through the work of helping farmers grow coffee and receive a way towards restoration after seeing mass destruction in their homes in 1994. They also work in Haiti & Thailand and other parts of the world to help bring fair-trade/slave-free coffee to you!

7. Serrv has so many things that are all fair-trade on their site. They have housewares, clothing, jewelry, food, linens, birdhouses, candles, and so much more! What they do with the money? They are completely non-profit and give the funds to those who create each piece to bring people from poverty stricken areas into sustainable living. There are actual Serrv stores that you may have seen here and there (4 in my state of NJ). I’ve never been to one, but think I need to visit one soon!

I’d love to list so many more here, but this is getting so long! In the past I did fashion posts of myself in vintage clothes while highlighting on many grand organizations fighting human trafficking, and highlighting on a few products (some not mentioned in this post, and one that was), which are fair-trade as well. Christmas is an exciting time and I hope that you all have a splendid one! I’d love to learn more about fair-trade products, so please let me know about ones you love as well as private companies that haven’t any slave-labor. Thanks so much for taking the time to read through these!! Love, Victoria (visit my blog)

I hope you enjoy hearing about all these awesome companies as much as I did everyone! Thanks so much Victoria for taking so much of your time to create this gift guide for us! And if you haven’t seen Victoria’s blog, be sure to check it out!

thx
